This isn’t exactly breaking news, since we’ve been expecting the Android Market to eventually catch up and overtake the Apple App Store in terms of apps available for a long time. It just makes sense; Android is growing at a rate far superior to what Apple is capable of at this point and with more and more developers shifting their attention to Android, it’s not a matter of if the Android Market will surpass Apple’s App Store but when it will surpass it.
Distimo, an analytics group focused on application retailers, has predicted that the Android Market will surpass the Apple App Store in size before the end of July, 2011. They are basing this statement on research they’ve put together over the past months. Indeed, if you take a look at the graph below – note the steep inclination of Android’s representative line in comparison with all other app stores. Clearly, the Android Market is on a fast track to seeing some major growth in the coming months.
