Zinio is the premier magazine application on Android, there is no doubt about it; but if you’re anything like I was a while ago, you haven’t had the chance to actually sit down and give it a spin. Here’s a look at what Zinio has to offer and why we think you’re going to love it (if you haven’t already tried it!).
Getting Started
Firing up Zinio for the first time, you may be worried about a lengthy sign-up process but we’re happy to say that Zinio has streamlined the process to a few simple bits of information. You will need to provide nothing obtrusive, just your email adress, name and create a password. Obviously, if you choose to make any purchases, you will have to divulge more information.
After you have created your account, or logged in with your existing credentials, you’ll be greeted with the welcome screen that looks something like:

Zinio is optimized for both Android phones and tablets and while it is excellent to be able to use on a smaller display such as an Android phone, the application really shines on tablets. There is something immensely enjoyable about perusing the latest issue of Guitar Player from the convenience of an Android tab.

Zinio isn’t overloaded with features, but at the same time we never really felt like we were missing anything. I’m sure that there are some features that hardcore users will be clamoring for, and hopefully Zinio can accommodate those users but for the time being, we felt that Zinio has put together an excellent offering without potentially unnecessary bells and whistles.
Wrapping Up
If you’re interested in keeping up on the latest happenings around the world, Zinio is definitely the application for you. The application in itself offers 12 magazines for free every day which is a lot more than you’ll get if you walk up to your downtown news-stand. In addition to that, the sheer volume of magazines that Zinio offers in-store is astounding. There is something for everyone here, whether you’re looking to get some insight on the economic situation or follow the latest in the world of science; you’ll be able to find a title that will capture your interest.
Zinio supports subscriptions, like print magazines, and they are easy to purchase and renew right from Zinio’s website or the in-app store.
If you haven’t given digital magazines a chance, Zinio is one you’ll want to pick up and get started with. It’s always nice to have a magazine handy to pass some time every now and then, and with this app, you always have that nearby. The one complaint we had, I suppose, is that magazine downloads do take a while and without proper signal, you’ll find yourself getting frustrated.
