Finally the device has officially been put back into action. For a second there, the android world was wondering if the device was going to be on an everlasting hold. The Dell Streak will go on pre-order this week, and officially launch August 13th. The Streak will cost $299 with a new 2-year contract and $549 without. A notable note, the device is only to be sold on the Dell Mobile website and not in the AT&T stores, although that may or may not change in the upcoming weeks.
Although Dell claims that the device “was designed with the future in mind to support future software, application and platform upgrades,” it will still be launching with 1.6. All this means is that eventually the Streak will upgrade to Android 2.2.
Dell has priced the Streak at the top end of the Android market, as they believe the 5-inch display is the defining feature and users will pay extra for it. Some other premium features are a front facing camera and an HDMI out.
As always, leave your thoughts and comments below. Are you getting this device? Do you think it will do as well selling only from Dell, rather than from AT&T’s stores?
I like how you hover over the word Dell and an HP ad pops up
