Droid X Running Custom ROM

The Droid X has been hacked to run a non-official ROM. In this abysmally soundtracked video, the Sapphire AOSP 2.2 ROM has been loaded onto the device, and you can watch is slowly boot. The Droid X was meant to be unhackable, a useless claim if ever there was one.

Sure, this isn’t booting a custom kernel yet, but it’s a really important step in the right direction, and on the way to getting rid of Motorola’s crud on the phone. It’s not ready for primetime yet, but we’ll be waiting when it does. The great promise of Android was the ability to have complete control and openness for your devices, and we’ll be damned if Motorola will stop people tweaking their phones.
