As a former BlackBerry user of 8 years, I had become entrenched in the ways of the 'berry. Naturally I've become accustomed to having certain apps and features that I to not see in Android. Surprisingly, there are not all that many, and none are "deal breakers". But here's a few I'd live to see, in no particular order:

    1. LinkedIn. I'd like a stand-alone client for LinkedIn, not some WAP bookmark. There are about a bazillion different Twitter apps, Facebook has their own mobile app, so what's up with LinkedIn?

    2. Autotext. This is my personal #1 want for Android. For those who don't know, Autotext automatically converts a letter combo you specify to whatever you designate. I used it for commonly included words, especially those with odd formatting like company names. I also used it for my email signatures. If I typed "bbba" at the end of an email, Autotext would automatically convert it to my closing and contact info. It would use the formatting I designated when I created the entry as well. One thing I liked about Autotext for email signatures was that I could type "bbba" at the bottom of an email, see my signature attached, and then not use it for later forwarding or replies to that same email. You'd get my sig just once, on the original, and thereafter I would simply use my initials at the end of subsequent replies. Autotext, once enabled, ran in the background and always did it's thing, just like a spell checker. Nice.

    3. Viigo. It's an RSS feed aggregator and reader. You could update it, then lose your cellular connection (subway tunnel) and continue to read the headlines. To request the full article you'd have to wait until your phone re-connected, but you could continue perusing the cached headlines without a signal.

    4. A feature, not an app, that I always liked on my BlackBerry was punctuation being added automatically. If I typed "Im" it would be changed to "I'm". If I wanted to undo a correction I would simply hit the backspace key and the first time I hit it the auto-correct would be undone rather than the cursor actually moving and erasing the last letter.

That's all I've got for now. If I'm just too much of a noob to have found a viable replacement for any of these that already exists, please chime in. :dft010:big_smile

I would like to see an app that would be a strobe that would also give flashes per sec.

I would like to see the map have a provission that would let you repeat the direction as many times as you desire at any time.

I would like an app to record both sides of a phone call on the motorola droid.

I don't have answers for all, but maybe for some. For the auto corrections, my phone (Motorola Droid 1) will do this. Under settings, go to language and keyboard. There should be settings for this. I have mine auto capitalize after punctuation, suggest words and spellings, space after punctuation, etc. Works well. Also auto corrects words by adding punctuation. This will change Id to I'd.

As for Viigo, I don't use it. Have you looked at Go News by SBSH? Has lots of news feeds and does as you described for subway situation.

I thought there was a Linked In app available. Will need to look.

    Hopefully, some of this helps!

NewsRob can download RSS feeds with articles so you can read in the subway.

FireKeys Auto Text or Smart Keyboard Pro for auto text.

I use AppBrain to search in the Market.

    Thanks gang!

I looked at NewsRob and it says "slow on Galaxy S." I found PureRSS that seems to do a good job. Adding feeds is a pain as there is no look-up feature, but it's getting the job done for me.

As for Auto Text, I don't want a replacement keyboard. I wan't something that adds the BlackBerry-style Autotext to what comes stock with Android. Firekeys gives me a smaller keyboard and isn't as accurate as I'd like. Supposedly older versions were better, and the current version will be broken when Froyo comes out as they don't yet support it.

The physical keyboard does the punctuation thing but the on-screen keyboard does not. Bummer.

No dedicated LinkedIn clients. Even the Droid one is broken since LinkedIn's mobile site changed their login credentials.

apps I would like to see

I would like a garage sale app that shows on a map all garage sales in an area.

I would like to see an app that would let me put reflective tape on a spinning object and tell me the rpm with the strobe light

I would like to see a function that would let the phone vibrate when a slow loading url is completely loaded.

Oh...and as much as I love to see more posters, with all the forums, it starts to sound like the old EQ...How many times can you read "Push IN on scroll wheel, then roll UP"??? I go to other forums as well, and there is so much repetition that you get lost. I like the "homey" feel of this place!
