Thanks for the post. I'm brand new to the Android world so I might hold off a bit before rooting it. Although I would love to get rid of some of those annoying stock apps and wifi tether would be nice too. :)

All the stuff Sprint has preinstalled like footprints, NASCAR etc. I wish I could just uninstall and only install if I want them.

Yes but the OS won't allow you to uninstall.

Says it can be done in 5 seconds....well I downloaded the zip file to my computer in about 5 seconds and now I have no idea what to do.

edit: figured out you have to do it from your phones browser.

Ok, now my phone is rooted (i guess) how do you find these apps

edit again: got it all running smooth....thanks guys

The little ninja app is what you use to set super user permission for certain apps

I finally rooted my Evo and the WiFi tether app is awesome. On a side note I wonder why it says sent from my PC 36100 instead of Evo.

Sent from my PC36100 using Everything Android app

Awesome, did you use the Unrevoked method to root?

more then likely its because the app recognizes your phone by the model number as opposed to the actual device name. You can change that title in your settings page.

Hi to all. New to this part of iCafe. I'm a regular on the iPhone side but now I'll be getting the EVO too. I guess the term ROOTING is to an android as Jailbreaking is to an iPhone?

My other question is about the tethering on the EVO. With this new app after rooting, does it have tethering with a cable or does the app turn it into a wifi hotspot just like the OEM $30 a month service?

Q1: yes you are correct rooting is similar to jailbreaking however, there are some differences. I.E. you can flash a custom made ROM to your phone using root (basically turn your phone into having a whole new User Interface), you can overclock the processor (speed it up) etc.

    Q2: yes ;)

I just went from the iPhone to the Evo and rooting this phone is 100 times easier then Jailbreaking the current crop of iPhones. The tethering app works great after rooting. It is wireless and I've tested this past weekend. It works great.
