Droid killed my Droid

got my Droid today. Was having fun.

I downloaded a wallpaper changer app. I selected a photo taken by the phone and...... the phone is in endless reboot mode.

I called Verizon 800 support, told to try safe-mode boot but that did not work.

have to return to store for a swap.

it is disturbing that a poorly written app can hose the unit so badly.

cannot even do a master reset unless it is bootable.

If one could boot into recovery (assuming there is such a thing on the DROID, as there is on other Android phones), a data wipe (factory reset) could be done easily. But I'm not sure if it has been found yet, let alone if it exists.

How do you "safe mode" boot?

Went to the store today and they replaced the phone. All the apps, even the bad one, synced with Google and came back BUT the app did not run. We could uninstall it.

The 800 tech support said safe-mode boot was done this way:

1. make sure phone is off (remove battery in this case, reinsert)
2. open the slider keyboard
3. press and hold POWER and MENU for 30 seconds (you have to hold both).

you should see a screen indicating safe mode.

this is what I was told. The "bad" phone would not do it.

I tried it on the replacement phone and as far as I can tell, it does not either.
