Google Adds Number Porting, Weather Widget Services

Two new cool things from the fine folks at Google today, one big, one little.

The big boy is number porting for Google Voice, which lets you cancel your current account with a carrier and port the number over to Google for $20, thus using Voice for your day to day needs without having to give everyone a new number. The downside is that this ends your current standing contract — which could cost you big bucks — and then you need to get another one to continue to receive service. Until data only plans become a reality, that’s a major pain in the ass.

Smaller, but still cool, is the new weather widget from Google. Just boot up your browser and search for “weather”. It’ll show your conditions, with a four day forecast below that. The slider is for figuring out how the next 12 hours are going to look. That’s pretty nifty.
