HTC Planning Their Own App Store

So, the app store divide continues, and HTC are planning their own version of the marketplace, says the Financial Times. According to their sources, HTC is hiring up in order to create an electronic storefront for books and apps. The store will offer e-books, magazines, and applications.

This continues a rather disturbing trend, where everyone and their mother seems to want to create their own store. Verizon has one, Best Buy is said to be working on one, as is Amazon, and Barnes & Noble are doing something similar for their Android Nook.

Pretty soon looking for a specific app will involve digging through a dozen different stores to find one who has it, and choosing a handset will be influenced by what stores run on that device.

I don’t know yet if this will be good or bad. Now our devices are going to locked down by app stores and a whole new set of rules per store.?. I think from here on im going with GOOGLE experience only. All the oem’s need to focus on producing the best cutting edge device and less on over the top UI’s and evil ways to dip their hands into the software app $$$ jar. This is an ecosystem struggling for balance.
