The Motorola i1 (as displayed perfectly by Mike Rowe above) is the first Android smartphone to have Nextel’s Direct Connect (“push to talk”). The i1 is available from Sprint for $149.99 with a two year contract and a $50 rebate. The devices are not in stores until August 8, but can be purchased online or over the phone.
So what else is in this phone? Currently it’s using Android 2.1, hopefully with an upgrade (but that remains to be seen), a unique Zora Time Track System (barcode and signature capture), Military Specifications, Sprint Mobile Locator, TeleNavTrack (for inventory tracking).
As shown in the picture above, this is a workers phone. It is perfect for anyone looking to combined Push To Talk, Inventory tracking, and a Worker Locator (in case they sneak off for an early coffee).
What are your thought on this phone? Do you want more types of phones like this? Let us know below.
I thought this phone had android 1.5 not 2.1? If it does have 2.1 I will be looking for one soon!
I would love to see a rugged smartphone on Verizon. Currently I’m using a Touch Pro 2 after work and a Motorola Barrage during work. Call forwarding is OK, but it would be nice to combine functions.
@Gary
To the best of my knowledge it should be running 2.1

@Pete
This would be the perfect phone for you then. Should be rugged enough for most situations, but that remains to be seen.

I would like to be able to use this phone on the Sprint network.
