Report: Sprint’s Big Event Will Unleash A 3D Phone

Taylor Wimberly at AndroidandMe is pegging Sprint’s mysterious big event as being the first unleashing of a 4G 3D stereoscopic phone. That fits with their plan to “show you that the impossible is possible” and will demonstrate an “industry first,” and is thematically appropriate for having a magician present the device.

Glasses free 3D is a big deal right now — CES was full of TVs using the technology, and the next Nintendo Gameboy will use the technology, and many game manufacturers are on board with the ability.

My major concern is what this will do to battery life, and how it completely kills much of the social functionality of a phone. With 3D in this form, you have to position your head in a pretty specific spot to get the illusion, so there’s no way you can have a friend looking over your shoulder to get it too.

It seems like Manufacturers keep pushing the limits with what these devices can do. 3D sounds awesome but how will this affect Battery life? I’ve been struggling with Battery life ever since I got my Incredible. I know all the tricks (disable 3G, use Wireless etc.) but should we really have to?

Would be really kick ass if it had 3D video calling, Glasses-free. With 4G speeds, it’s possible.
