Samsung and AT&T Introduce Rugby Smart, Built For Extreme Conditions

Samsung today announced the new Rugby Smart, available from AT&T beginning on Sunday, March 4th. As the name would imply, this phone is built for extreme conditions and features a rugged exterior. It’s completely dust-proof and can even be submerged in up to 1m of water for up to 30 minutes. The Samsung Rugby Smart will be priced at $99.99 through AT&T Wireless, with a new 2-year agreement.

“The Samsung Rugby Smart is perfect for active customers who need another level of durability with their smartphone,” said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Devices, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “It is water and dustproof and has all the features of a leading smartphone.”

But will they upgrade it to ICS?

I can’t wait to see the first angry user posting that they were only underwater for 31 minutes, but the phone crapped ou! Not fair!

I guess there could be a market such as construction sites, docks, oil rigs, etc. Probably somewhat limited though. There are certainly many parents who might want to opt for stronger devices for the kids who seem to destroy everything they touch.
