His and Her Android grabbed some photos of the keyboard on the upcoming T-Mobile G2. See those three keys with what look kind of like ellipses? Those are quick keys, and can be used to assign shortcuts to and application. Programmable macros and short cuts? Count me in! It’s a feature we haven’t seen before, and it’s damn cool.
Other than that, you can really tell too much from the keyboard, though you can get a pretty good feel of the layour, and alternate buttons.
We’re expecting the device to be announced on September 15, and launched near the end of the month.

I can’t wait to get my hands on this device, anyone know if this will eventually make it as a ADP?
well, keyboard shortcuts have been part of android since day one. if your phone has a keyboard, you can set them in the applications settings to the searc key+any other key. but this is the first time there have been dedicated keys.
i sort of wish they had left the keyboard like it was on the G1. I am going to miss my dedicated row of number buttons. At least they still have an @ key for easy use instead of having to shift to get to it.
cant wait to see it in person
I disagree with the number-keys comment. Keeping an entire row would make the device bulkier. They should have given “SYM” its own button, though.
What I like in this picture are the materials from which the buttons seems to be made. It looks like soft, individual buttons which depress independently from one another. This will make typing a little bit faster compared to a phone like the Droid2.
I guess you missed the giant SYM on the spacebar? I think those shortcut buttons are shortcuts to homescreens. Me likey. Can’t wait for a vid of the ‘slider’ in action. Methinks it will be a snappy one…
