Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10 Inch – the most important at a glance
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 is the middle child of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 4 line. And, just like every other middle child, it’s largely overshadowed by its more popular siblings. The Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 does have some things going for it, though. It’s a wellbuilt tablet with a large, highresolution display. It also has a microSD card slot for expandable storage, which is a rarity in the world of Android tablets.
But the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 is also a bit underpowered compared to other 10inch tablets on the market. It has a lowerresolution display than most of its rivals, and its performance isn’t as snappy as we would like. If you’re looking for a great 10inch Android tablet, the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 isn’t necessarily the best option out there. But it’s a solid tablet that’s worth considering if you’re on a budget.
Design
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 is a big tablet. It’s not quite as large as some other 10inch tablets on the market, but it’s still on the big side. The tablet is made entirely of plastic, which gives it a bit of a cheap feeling. But the plastic is also sturdy and wellbuilt.
The front of the tablet is taken up entirely by the 10.1inch display. There are slim bezels around the sides of the display, but the top and bottom bezels are quite thick. The thick bezels make the tablet seem a bit dated, but they do give you something to hold on to when you’re using the tablet in landscape mode.
On the back of the tablet, there’s a small camera lens centered near the top. Below that is a Samsung logo, and below that is a speaker grille. The left and right sides of the tablet are both pretty bare.
The top of the tablet has a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microphone, and a microSD card slot. The bottom of the tablet has a charging port and a speaker grille.
Display
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 has a 10.1inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800. That’s a bit lower than the resolution of most other 10inch tablets on the market. As a result, the Tab 4 10.1’s display isn’t as crisp as we would like. Text and images look a bit fuzzy, and the display isn’t as bright as some other tablets on the market.
That said, the Tab 4 10.1’s display is still decent. Colors are fairly accurate, and the tablet is still usable in direct sunlight. The display is also reasonably responsive, though it’s not as snappy as the best 10inch tablets on the market.
Performance
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 is powered by a 1.2GHz quadcore processor and has 1.5GB of RAM. That’s not a ton of power, and it shows in everyday use. The Tab 4 10.1 isn’t a slow tablet, but it’s not as fast as some of its rivals. Apps take a bit longer to load than we would like, and multitasking is a bit of a chore.
The Tab 4 10.1’s gaming performance is also pretty lackluster. We tested a few games on the tablet, and they all ran well enough. But the tablet’s lowpower processor and limited RAM resulted in some pretty significant frame rate drops.
Battery life
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 has a 6000mAh battery. That’s a pretty big battery, and it results in good battery life. The tablet can easily last for more than a day of moderate use. And if you’re just using the tablet for casual web browsing and email, you could easily get two days of use out of it.
The Tab 4 10.1’s battery life is good, but it’s not great. Some other 10inch tablets on the market have better battery life. But the Tab 4 10.1 should still be able to get you through a day of use without any problems.
Software
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 comes with Android 4.4 KitKat. That’s not the latest version of Android, but it’s still pretty recent. And, more importantly, it’s a version of Android that’s designed for tablets. As a result, the Tab 4 10.1 doesn’t have any of the unnecessary bloatware that’s often found on Android phones.
The Tab 4 10.1 does have a few Samsungspecific apps preinstalled, but none of them are really necessary. And, if you don’t like them, you can always uninstall them.
